A ship-to-ship transfer of certified green ammonia has been completed at Western Australia's Port of Hedland. Project partners Pilbara Ports, Fortescue, and CMB.TECH identified the transfer as the first green ammonia bunkering operation carried out in Australia.

The bunkering targeted the 300-metre dry bulk carrier Mineral Europa, which received the alternative fuel from a bunker vessel during a two-hour procedure on 2 November. Following the refuelling, the vessel proceeded into the port facility to load a cargo of iron ore.

Mineral Europa is operating on charter to Fortescue and is scheduled to haul iron ore to buyers in China. The project partners have described the vessel as the first ammonia-powered dry bulk carrier in the world.
