Port Qasim, Pakistan's second-largest seaport, is undertaking a $250 million capital dredging initiative to deepen and widen its navigational channel. The works span a 49-kilometre fairway and are designed to accommodate larger commercial vessels.

Port officials linked the infrastructure expansion to a significant rise in cargo throughput, noting that transshipment volumes across the country's maritime hubs have increased more than fourfold amid changing shipping routes linked to the Gulf.

The Port Qasim Authority reported handling 20,000 twenty-foot equivalent units as regional traffic patterns continue to shift.
