UK Chamber Urges Practical Measures Alongside Net Zero Port Rules
The UK Chamber of Shipping has stressed that regulatory frameworks alone cannot drive maritime decarbonisation as the government releases feedback on its net zero ports strategy.

The UK Department for Transport has released a summary detailing 65 industry responses submitted regarding its net zero ports strategy. The feedback follows the launch of the government Maritime Decarbonisation Strategy in March of the prior year, which included a three-month consultation window.
Following the publication, the UK Chamber of Shipping cautioned that legislative mandates by themselves will not achieve the sector transition. The trade body noted that successful emissions reduction depends on simultaneous progress across both vessel fleets and shore-side infrastructure.
The organisation underscored the necessity for pragmatic support mechanisms that foster commercial certainty. Such measures are required to enable port authorities, marine fuel providers, and the wider supply chain to commit capital with confidence.
