Alkagesta attended the Argus Fertilizer Caspian, Black Sea and Eastern European Markets Conference 2026 in Istanbul on 17-18 September, the annual meeting point for fertilizer traders, producers and trade service providers. Organised by Argus Media, the event drew more than 450 attendees from over 250 companies across 45 countries, with the agenda centred on emerging export markets, shifting trade flows and closer cooperation across the Caspian region, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

The company was represented by Vusal Muradov, Fertilizer Desk Lead, together with Fertilizer Trader Tural Sabirzade and Mustafa Yigit Shen from the operations function. Over the two-day programme the team met traders, producers, logistics providers and market intelligence specialists. The same desk was in the room at IFA Monaco earlier this year, continuing a run of attendance at the sector's principal gatherings.

Discussion ranged across the outlook for global fertilizer trade flows and pricing, the implications of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism for imported product and European competitiveness, and Turkiye's growing role as a regional hub. Delegates also examined Central Asian markets, where domestic demand and export capacity are expanding, and the logistics picture across key corridors: route developments, terminal capacity and freight trends that decide how efficiently tonnes actually move.

The backdrop is a market working through one of its most complex periods in recent memory. Disruption to key shipping corridors has exposed how fragile supply chains become when they are optimised for efficiency rather than resilience, a point Alkagesta has made in its own assessment of fertilizer supply chain disruption around the Strait of Hormuz. Restoring physical flows, as that analysis puts it, is a process rather than an event.

Alkagesta's fertilizer desk trades nitrogen, phosphate and specialty products, sourcing from established global origins and matching supply with markets where agricultural fundamentals are strongest, principally Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and emerging agricultural markets. The company recently gained access to the Argus Open Markets window for European biodiesel, HVO and UCO, widening its participation in Argus price assessment processes across more than one commodity segment.
