Public support for sustainable maritime initiatives is broadening globally as authorities work to bring low- and zero-emission fuels and vessels into commercial service. However, national approaches to facilitating this transition differ considerably across jurisdictions.

Several European states are actively developing multiple components of the alternative fuel supply chain at the same time. These coordinated initiatives span upstream fuel manufacturing, ship construction and conversion, and the establishment of local bunkering facilities.

As part of this regional momentum, Germany has initiated an application intake to support the deployment of cleaner maritime technologies and related infrastructure.
