The International Bunker Industry Association has submitted a proposal to the upcoming Marine Environment Protection Committee meeting seeking changes to Carbon Intensity Indicator calculations for bunker vessels. The submission addresses concerns regarding how the current regulatory framework evaluates fuel delivery craft.

Under the existing methodology, the association indicates that bunker vessels find it extremely difficult to secure the mandated C rating. The difficulty arises from standard daily operations that predominantly involve brief trips and manoeuvring within port areas.

The industry body outlined its position in an announcement released on 11 September. The upcoming MEPC 85 gathering is expected to review the recommendations regarding the carbon intensity framework.
