A partnership comprising Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Kokuka Sangyo Co., and Hanshin Diesel Works has confirmed the completion of the Kokuryu Maru. The dual-purpose chemical tanker is designed to function as a methanol bunkering vessel and marks Kokuka Sangyo's first dedicated methanol-fuelled ship.

The 1,223 DWT vessel completed its maiden methanol bunkering operation at Kinoe Port on Wednesday. The refuelling utilised biomethanol produced domestically at MGC's Niigata facility via the mass balance method.

The vessel is fitted with a methanol-powered main engine commissioned by Kokuka Sangyo to support alternative-fuel maritime operations.
