Waterborne shipments of crude oil and petroleum products originating in the US Gulf Coast, designated as PADD 3, saw notable growth during April and May. Deliveries bound for the West Coast, or PADD 5, experienced a substantial rise, more than quadrupling compared to the same period the previous year.

The sharp increase in traffic heading to the West Coast followed the implementation of a waiver. This regulatory provision permitted a wider selection of vessels to move cargoes between domestic ports.

Coastal movements to other regions also expanded during the period. Waterborne dispatches leaving the US Gulf Coast for destinations along the East Coast, designated as PADD 1, recorded an increase as well.
