US Utility-Scale Battery Storage Capacity Approaches 52 GW After Rapid Growth
Operational utility-scale battery storage capacity in the United States reached nearly 52 GW following strong additions through mid-2026, according to official data.

Utility-scale battery storage installations across the United States have expanded at an average annual pace of 70% over the past three years. According to figures from the U.S. Energy Information Administration's Preliminary Monthly Electric Generator Inventory, total domestic nameplate capacity reached nearly 52 gigawatts by the middle of 2026.
The operational battery storage fleet stood at 43.6 GW at the close of 2025. Grid operators and project developers subsequently brought an additional 8.3 GW of capacity online during the first six months of 2026.
The sustained multi-year additions reflect significant ongoing investment in utility-scale energy storage assets across the domestic power network. The data tracks operating commercial installations contributing to the national electricity grid.
