DNV projects global LNG bunker fleet must double by 2030
A newly published DNV study indicates the worldwide fleet of LNG bunkering vessels may need to more than double by 2030 to satisfy rising marine fuel demand.

Classification society DNV has published a white paper addressing delivery constraints across the marine energy sector. The study projects that the worldwide fleet of liquefied natural gas bunker vessels will likely need to more than double over the coming years.
The anticipated shortfall stems from LNG-powered vessel adoption progressing at a faster pace than supporting bunkering infrastructure. Without an acceleration in supply asset construction, bunkering capacity risks lagging behind operational fleet requirements.
DNV estimates that the sector may require between 165 and 208 specialized bunker vessels globally by the end of this decade. Meeting this projected volume will be essential for sustaining the expanding fleet of alternative-fuelled tonnage.
