Alkagesta has added EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) allowances to its carbon trading offering, the company announced from Malta on 13 August 2026. The move was reported by trade titles including Ship & Bunker, Ship.energy and Bioenergy International.

According to the company, the allowances desk sits alongside its existing CORSIA-eligible sustainable aviation fuel and biofuels business, allowing clients to cover a wider set of carbon obligations through a single counterparty. Ship.energy additionally reported that the offering will include the expanded ETS2 scheme, which comes into effect in 2028.

The EU ETS has been in place since 2005 and was extended to cover shipping in January 2024. Its reach beyond the borders of the European Union makes it relevant to trading houses that operate across energy, fuels, fertilizers and related commodity markets in multiple jurisdictions.

Anthony Guida, Biofuels Trading Desk Lead at Alkagesta, is quoted in the company statement: "Trading EU ETS allowances alongside our CORSIA-eligible SAF and biofuels business means we can support clients across a much wider set of carbon obligations from one desk. As ETS2 brings smaller businesses into scope and ReFuelEU blending requirements ramp up, having a single trading partner across allowances, credits and physical fuel supply is becoming increasingly valuable, and we are well placed to support that shift."
