Tanker market economics across the Black Sea strengthened notably throughout late September and early October. The upward movement reflected heightened operational complexity and rising expenses associated with transporting regional cargoes.

Multiple factors contributed to the firming rate environment in the Black Sea basin. These included recent attacks on commercial vessels, interruptions to Russian energy movements, and intensified oversight targeting tonnage linked to Russia.

By contrast, Baltic Sea tanker routes trended in the opposite direction during the same period. Aframax rate differentials in the Baltic slipped further into discount territory when compared to global shipping benchmarks.
