Alkagesta and Navex launch Alkanavex joint venture in metals trading
The partnership takes the energy trader into metals, a market with different financing and logistics demands.

Alkagesta and Navex have launched a joint venture named Alkanavex to enter metals trading, according to Maltese business press published in November. The move was reported as a strategic expansion beyond the group's established energy business.
Metals and energy share a commercial grammar - physical arbitrage, working capital, hedging against a listed benchmark - but differ in execution. Cargo sizes, quality certification, warehousing and financing conventions all follow different rules, which is why traders typically enter through a partnership rather than alone.
A joint venture structure lets each side contribute what it already has: distribution, credit lines and logistics capability on one side, market access and product expertise on the other. It also limits the balance-sheet exposure of a first move into an unfamiliar commodity class.
Global Freight has not independently verified the ownership split, capitalisation or product scope of the venture. Details remain as reported by the publications listed below.
