LR and MARIC Unveil Tri-Fuel Ready Tanker Design

United Kingdom-based classification society Lloyd's Register and the Marine Design and Research Institute of China have collaborated to present a tri-fuel-ready tanker concept. The project responds to persistent industry uncertainty regarding the selection and adoption of future marine energy sources.

The vessel design provides ship operators with structural and operational flexibility to adopt liquefied natural gas, methanol, or ammonia as propulsion technologies, bunkering supply chains, and environmental rules develop.

By allowing adaptation across three distinct alternative fuel pathways, the concept is structured to assist shipowners in navigating long-term capital investment decisions amid changing maritime decarbonisation regulations.
