Classification society Lloyd’s Register has awarded Approval in Principle to CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co. for a 12,500 cubic metre liquefied natural gas bunkering vessel design. The formal signing took place during the SMM 2026 maritime exhibition in Hamburg.

The approval comes amid rising demand for LNG bunkering solutions and ongoing capital allocation into gas supply infrastructure. Shipowners are pursuing flexible operational capabilities and functional pathways for maritime fuel transition.

The milestone confirms that the shipyard's vessel concept meets fundamental classification guidelines as the industry expands its dedicated LNG supply fleet.
